THANK YOU TO GREENVILLE TECHNICAL CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL'S 2024 CHARTER CHAMPIONS

JASON ELLIOTT & FRED CRAWFORD

OUR NEwest CHARTER CHAMPIONS WILL BE honored FEBRUARY 27, 2025!

More than Twenty-five years ago, Greenville Technical Charter High School was born of the vision of Dr. Barton and a small group of parents who championed a middle college high school and school choice.  Since then, thanks to community leaders and members of the SC Government, we have thrived. Annually, GTCHS selects two people who have been instrumental in making the vision a reality and who are champions for the children of Greenville and students of GTCHS.  These Charter Champions are recognized and celebrated at an event in the spring which also showcases our students and successful programs.  Please join us in recognizing our Charter Champions.

"Every Child deserves a champion"
Rita Pierson

A champion: Someone who fights for you; someone who unwaveringly supports your cause.  Charter Champions are those who believe in the power of school choice, who are committed to ensuring that every child has a quality option for free, public education and who are persistent in their efforts to improve the outcomes for our children.   In particular, they are advocates for Greenville Technical Charter High School, the first charter high school in the state of South Carolina.  GTCHS is grateful for our champions.  The role they play in promoting strong legislation, providing financial contributions, and leading innovative practices is vital for the students we serve.

Jason Elliott is a proud Greenville County native. He graduated from Clemson University School of Law. After law school, Elliott prosecuted criminals as an Assistant Solicitor. From 1999-2003, he served as District Director for then-Congressman Jim DeMint. In 2004, he opened his own law firm. Elliott was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives (District 22) in 2016 and has a strong conservative record through his service on the Judiciary Committee. Elliott is also a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, Greenville County Bar Association, and Rotary Club of Greenville, where he has also served as president.
Jason Elliott has been a champion of school choice in the state of South Carolina. He has never failed to support GTCHS, having served GTCHS as board chairman and consistently supporting the school in its mission and vision to provide an excellent option to families in upstate South Carolina.
Fred Crawford brought extensive knowledge of public education to GTCHS as Principal/CEO from 2002-2012. Under his leadership, the school achieved national prominence and became the first Early College High School in South Carolina. He was engaged in school reform efforts at both the state and national levels to include the Coalition of Essential Schools, Annenberg Principals Institute at Brown University, the Principals’ Center at Harvard University, and he served on the Middle College National Consortium Executive Board of Directors. He also served on the planning committee for both Brashier Middle College and Greer Middle College, which are replications of the GTCHS program on the other Greenville Technical College Campuses.
During Fred Crawford’s tenure, GTCHS became the first public charter school in South Carolina to be named a National Blue Ribbon School and a South Carolina Palmetto’s Finest School. Fred Crawford is a true Charter Champion, having built a strong foundation for the school that continues to be built on today.
